Developed by the Mentoring Children of Prisons Support Center
Which is supported by the Family and Youth Services Bureau

The Goal:
The MCP Support Center launched a training series in March 2009 in an effort to support MCP programs in identifying MCP specific training tools for their programs. The goals of this toolkit is to provide a collection of training resources and tools to programs providing mentoring services to children of incarcerated parents. In addition, the MCP Support Center identified a need for tools that prepare mentors to engage with families and children of the incarcerated to insure more positive interactions.

The Audience:
The primary audience for the toolkit will be organizations currently providing mentoring services to children of incarcerated parents. Other possible audiences include teachers, juvenile and adult justice systems, child welfare programs, and child advocates.

How to Use This Toolkit:
The toolkit is designed to be "user friendly" and provides approximately 50 hours of MCP specific training. The toolkit contains five modules and each module provides the organization the opportunity to design individualized training for the MCP program. Each module includes facilitator preparation, topical background text, PowerPoints, and activities.
